Buying a domain name, just gives you exclusive ownership of that name. Like www.RobertG.com. It doesn'd do too much good to own the domain name if you don't have a website place for it. That's what a web host does. I use GoDaddy (for seven years). First you can see if a domain name is already take, then you can buy it through GoDaddy. Then you can purchase hosting service through GoDaddy. So that you have a server for your web site.

A domain name is just a name that people can type into a browser.





For example, yahoo.com is a domain name. No one but Yahoo gets to use this without their permission, as they have registered the domain.





A web host gives you access to a web server (or servers) that can host your website. This is what sends files to people when they go to your website.





In order for people to be able to type in a name into an Internet browser and see your website, you will need all of the above.

Reply:The Domain name is the actual URL that you would type in to reach your site...www.yahoo.com is a domain.





The Web host is somone that will 'host' your website, in other words a company that allows you to purchase disc space on their server to place your website on.
Reply:You need domain name like www.yourname.com firstly. Then you will need webhosting to publish webpages of your domain.








If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.
