I have a web host and a domain name, now what do i do to create a website?

Welcome to the wonderful world of programming.

The people here are right, you will need to learn HTML editing software or the core language itself. I would also recommend that you learn scripting languages such as Perl or PHP as they both have tones of examples of the net. Scripting languages will enable your website to save information on your web server (host).

But before you do all of this, go to www.oswd.com, they offer many basic HTML templates you can download, modify (learn from) and upload to your host.

You will need a good FTP program to upload to your host. Most Web Servers offer you a FAQ section which suggest FTP software and how to configure it.

Don't forget that the main HTML file has to be called index.htm or index.html. This is the first html document called when someone enters your domain.

I use an old copy of WS-FTP. You can always go to www.download.com or www.tucows.com and type FTP. You will see hundreeds of FTP programs with reviews.

Hope this helps and good luck with your new website.

Cheers,

There is a lot more involved with making a website than securing a domain. All that does is reserve space on a server somewhere so you can download files to it. Now the real work begins, building the website. Your going to need an HTML editor like FrontPage, or Dreamweaver to start building the website. If you have never done this before, it's likely it will take you time to learn.
Reply:What hosting service do you have for your domain?

Reply:You have 2 choices:

1) learn to do it yourself. It's not that hard and it doesn't involve "programming" in the classical sense. Programs like Microsoft Front page make it virtually drag and drop.

2) Hire someone to do it for you. Prices vary. I've had good luck with these guys.
